Luxury fashion house Dior melded the past and the present in its Cruise 2021 Collection, which debuted at a runway show – and broadcast to a remote audience – in Puglia in southern Italy.
Models, who observed social distancing on the catwalk, showed off standout resort season looks, including dreamy dresses with leather corsets, lace frocks and long skirts with floral appliques.
Not to be missed are the accessories: Head scarves and bands, signature handbags in brown and beige, leather cuff bracelets and nature-inspired jewellery.
“During this period, I sought to give collective efforts a new dimension. Despite the disadvantages of distance, bringing a different perspective to our daily lives has given us strength and imagination,” Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior, says in a media release. For the Cruise show, Chiuri chose to reconnect her creative passion with the region of Puglia, which she described as a place close to her heart.
Highlighted in the Cruise 2021 show were enduring symbols of Puglia’s rich heritage from its textile arts (delicate weaves and lace embellishments were evident on various pieces) to the illustrations of artist Pietro Ruffo, who produced more than 250 illustrations over three months for the resort collection.
